The implications of land preparation, crop establishment method and weed management on rice yield variation in the rice-wheat system in the Indo-Gangetic plains

▶ Direct seeded rice (DSR) is linked to increased variation in production potential. ▶ Wide area, long term studies confirmed DSR yields similar to transplanted rice. ▶ Protection of DSR yield from very early weed competition was critical. ▶ Successful farm adoption of DSR will depend on effective knowledge transfer. ▶ In the IGP, this knowledge must include system-level agronomic decision making.
