Abstract

•Thermo-chemical behavior of mango seed shell was analyzed.•Mango seed shell had high volatile and low ash content.•Important chemical products were identified via analytical Py-GC/MS.

In this work, a non-conventional biomass (mango seed shell) was evaluated for its potential to produce biofuels. Thus, some characterization techniques were performed, including thermogravimetric analyses (TGA), proximate and ultimate analyses, calorific value, compositional analyses, infrared spectra and analytical pyrolysis. Results from proximate analyses showed that mango seed has a good potential for bio-oil generation. The kinetic study showed that the independent parallel reaction model provides a good representation of the kinetic pyrolysis of the studied biomass. The analytical pyrolysis results showed the presence of important chemical products such as furfural, acid acetic, 1,3-pentadiene and phenolic compounds.
