Abstract
► Malondialdehyde content decreased in young leaves, new stems and fine roots. ► Young organs are protected preferentially from the drought-induced oxidative stress. ► Solute response to repeated dehydration and rehydration differed in different organs. ► Both the variation magnitude and the type of solutes involved varied with organs. ► It is the cooperation of all organs that improves the whole-plant drought tolerance.
