Abstract

•The material studied in this paper was collected from high altitude Himalayan localities.•The genitalic terminology corresponds with that of Ross & Hwang (1953) and Yang & Morse (2002).•Two new species of the genus Glossosoma subgenus Lipoglossa are described and illustrated.•Glossosoma (Lipoglossa) is now represented in India by 10 species.•We provide a catalogue for Indian species of the subgenus Lipoglossa.

Two new species of the genus Glossosoma subgenus Lipoglossa are described and illustrated. These include Glossosoma (Lipoglossa) morsei sp. nov. and G. (L.) gulmargense sp. nov. from Pahalgam and Gulmarg, respectively. Glossosoma (L.) morsei sp. nov. closely resembles G. (L.) dirghakantakam Schmid, 1971 but the males of these species can be distinguished by differences in shapes of lateral lobes of tergum X, inferior appendages and phallus. Glossosoma (L.) gulmargense sp. nov. resembles with G. (L.) aveletum Ross & Hwang, 1953, but the male of G. (L.) gulmargense sp. nov. can be distinguished from G. (L.) aveletum on the basis of difference in morphology of inferior appendage, paramere and phallus. A catalogue of Indian species of subgenus Lipoglossa is provided.
