•Nine species of the genus Diplazon Nees have been recorded from South Korea.•One new species, D. koreanus Balueva and Lee, sp. nov., is described.•Key to nine species of Diplazon occurring in South Korea is provided.
Nine species of the genus Diplazon are found to occur in South Korea. One species, Diplazon koreanus sp.nov., is described as new, one species, Diplazon suigensis Uchida, is re-described here. Four widely distributed Palaearctic species (Diplazon pallicoxa Manukyan, Diplazon scutatorius Teunissen, Diplazon tibiatorius (Thunberg), and Diplazon varicoxa (Thomson)) are recorded from South Korea for the first time. Diagnoses and a key to the nine South Korean species of the genus are provided.
