Abstract
▶ Grazer ingestion rates in all diet treatments were <1-2% body C d−1. ▶ Rates of nutrient release, when detected, were >100% of C, N, and P ingested. ▶ Starvation likely caused nutrient release rates to be higher than ingestion rates. ▶ Quantity and forms of nutrients released varied between non-toxic and toxic algal treatments. ▶ Typically, higher grazer DOM release occurred while feeding on toxic algal cultures.
