Abstract
This paper presents an electrical model of the sensitivity to misalignments of an inductive transcutaneous link based on a class E amplifier and two coils (a solenoid and a spiral coil). This model can be used with any SPICE-compatible simulator and makes it possible to obtain the mutual inductance as well as the effective voltage and current waveforms for any relative position of both coils (distance and lateral misalignment). Moreover, this model allows the computation of the actual power transfer efficiency of the whole link. This model was validated by measurements of the mutual inductance of the actual coils.
