Abstract
This paper presents a discussion of the upper boundary condition, which should be assumed in calculations of temperature distribution in a laser diode. Using the isothermal condition instead of convection or thermal insulation is proposed. Theoretical results are compared with temperature map obtained by thermoreflectance method. The model is based on the solution of two-dimensional, stationary heat conduction equation obtained by separation-of-variables approach. Full analytical expressions are provided. All considerations deal with p-side down mounted devices.
