Abstract
Prior to jute mechanical processing, a JBO based emulsion called jute batching oil is applied to jute reed. The presence of JBO makes the jute having kerosene odour and is reported as unhygienic. It is reported that the JBO migrates from jute packaging to food grains. In this study, to replace the conventional jute batching oil, an attempt has been made with sulfated castor oil in emulsion form on jute reed for batching, which is sustainable and water miscible in nature. A comparative study was made with the performance of sulfated castor oil over conventional jute batching oil in terms of physio chemical properties of oil, emulsion, and compatibility in mechanical processing system.
