The present study was conducted to investigate the effect of genetic polymorphisms in IGF-1, GHR and IGFBP-3 genes on body weight of Sirohi and Jamunapari breeds of India. A panel of 80 samples belonging to nine Indian goat breeds was used for SNP identification and a total of 18 SNPs in IGF1, 5 SNPs in GHR and 8 SNPS in IGFBP-3 genes were identified. All the SNPs identified in nine breeds were genotyped in 309 goats. Statistical analysis revealed that two SNPs of IGF-1, one SNP of GHR and one SNP of IGFBP-3 genes have significant association with body weight in Sirohi breed of goat at different ages and only 1 SNP of GHR gene was found to be associated with body weight at birth in Jamunapari breed of goat. The findings of the present study can be used for selection of animals with superior growth performance.
