Abstract
Goats form an integral part of the overall economy for poor farmers worldwide and are critical in supplying needed animal protein. International organizations involved in animal health, specifically, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, and the World Organization for Animal Health, work to monitor and facilitate the control of transboundary diseases of animals. Four of these diseases, which affect goats - peste des petits ruminants, foot-and-mouth disease, goat pox, and Rift Valley fever are reviewed.
