Abstract
⺠Whole genome sequences of African G9P[6] and G9P[8] rotaviruses were determined. ⺠G9P[6] strain had DS-1-like, whereas G9P[8] strains had Wa-like genetic backbone. ⺠The G9P[6] strain potentially emerged through Wa- and DS-like strains reassortment. ⺠VP4 and VP7 genes of S. African G9 strains clustered closely to those of rotaviruses from the same geographical area.
