Abstract
⺠The emergence of infectious diseases is a concern for human and wildlife health. ⺠We discuss how immune-mediated selection affects the emergence of infectious diseases. ⺠We suggest that immune-mediated selection can shape virulence evolution. ⺠Pathogens evolving in immunosuppressed hosts can acquire traits favoring their spread.
