► Restricted diversity among YopD sequences from human pathogenic Yersinia isolates. ► The N-terminus may contain a coiled-coil-like motif. ► This element is absent from YopD-like sequences derived from other bacterial genera. ► Contributes to YopD function and Ysc-Yop T3SS activity during Yersinia pathogenesis.
