Abstract
⺠We reconstructed the epidemiological history of the HBV-D subgenotypes in Albania. ⺠A percentage between 44.4% and 100% of the patients were infected with subgenotype D2. ⺠Coalescent analysis showed that HBV-D2 spread to Albania in the late 1960s. ⺠The effective number of infections sharply increased between the mid-1980s and 1990s.
