► Identification of clinical isolates of Acinetobacter spp. by MALDI-TOF MS. ► rpoB sequencing was used as gold standard technique. ► MALDI-TOF is not the best system to identify Acinetobacter spp. ► Acinetobacter species other than Acinetobacter baumannii should be responsible for several infections.
