Abstract
▶ Variability in host manipulation by parasites occurs within individuals, between individuals of a same population, and across populations. ▶ This phenomenon arises from complex interactions between genomes, environment and the age of hosts and parasites. ▶ Evolution of host manipulation should be considered within the framework of phenotypic plasticity rather than in a purely genetic framework.
