Abstract
⺠Hornbills are charismatic birds, and an important study system in ecology and conservation biology. ⺠We present the first complete phylogeny for all 61 hornbill species based on nuclear and mtDNA sequences. ⺠Topology conflicts with current taxonomic treatments but closely matches vocal variation across the family. ⺠We present a new arrangement for six major hornbill clades and reveal Tockus, Aceros and Penelopides are non-monophyletic. ⺠Our findings resolve some longstanding problems in hornbill systematics.
