Abstract
► The superfamily Oestroidea was recovered as a monophyletic clade placed inside a paraphyletic superfamily Muscoidea. ► The family Calliphoridae (Diptera: Oestroidea) is probably non-monophyletic. ► The subfamilies Rhiniinae and Mesembrinellinae are likely to comprise two distinct groups, apart from Calliphoridae. ► The use of more complex data partitioning strategies may result in less supported and sometimes unstable trees.
