Molecular phylogeny and morphometric analyses reveal deep divergence between Amazonia and Atlantic Forest species of Dendrophryniscus

► Dendrophryniscus is an early diverging genus of toad with fragmented distribution. ► We used molecular and morphological data to study species relationships. ► We found a ∼ 40 Ma old split between an Amazonian and Atlantic Forest clade. ► Morphometric analyses also confirm divergence between these two groups. ► We propose taxonomic changes and discuss this biogeographic pattern.
