Abstract
► A deep split between Thylacomyidae, Chaeropodidae and remaining living bandicoots is confirmed. ► New Guinean forest bandicoots are sister to the dry-country adapted Australian genera. ► The recently extinct Seram bandicoot is sister to Echymipera. ► Molecular clock estimates place origin of living bandicoots in the late Oligocene-early Miocene.
