Abstract
⺠Atlantic lineage of brown trout invaded western Mediterranean basin via NW Africa. ⺠Brown trout colonized NW Africa in at least three successive waves. ⺠A relict haplotype coalescing with nascent stage of mtDNA trout lineages was found.
