► The phylogeny of delphinid dolphins has been difficult to resolve. ► Mitochondrial DNA and individual nuclear DNA trees disagreed. ► Concatenated analyses recovered a resolved and robustly supported tree. ► This tree was used to interpret delphinid evolution.
