Abstract
► Brunfelsia (Solanaceae) has half its species in the Antilles, half in South America. ► A molecular phylogeny and chronogram reveal that Brunfelsia dates back to the Miocene. ► It originated in South America and reached the Antilles early during its evolution. ► There are Brunfelsia radiations on Cuba, Jamaica, Hispaniola, and Puerto Rico. ► The Cuban radiation includes 11 species that arose just 4 million years ago.
