Abstract
⺠We investigated the phylogenetic relationships of 229 species of sharks. ⺠We used four mtDNA and one nuclear gene and included all eight Orders and 31 families. ⺠The resulting hypothesis agrees with prior studies on major relationships (Orders). ⺠Many of the currently recognized families are not monophyletic. ⺠Our results suggest that Echinorhinus is not a squaliform but rather related to saw sharks.
