Abstract
⺠The plant lectin HHA affects Spodoptera littoralis larval growth and development. ⺠HHA binds to S. littoralis midgut columnar cells through mannose-containing glycan structures. ⺠HHA endocytosis in S. littoralis midgut columnar cells is partially clathrin-mediated. ⺠HHA interaction with midgut cells interferes with nutrient absorption. ⺠This study confirms the potential of mannose-specific lectins as pest control agents.
