Abstract
► Experiments on prey orientation and selection in relation to venom availability were performed. ► Centipedes showed a preference for injecting venom into the head/thorax rather than the abdomen. ► This result can be interpreted in terms of maximizing the effect of the neurotoxin of the venom. ► Venom extraction reduced the attack rate on both of two prey species. ► Return to normal attack rates was faster with small prey items than with large prey items.
