Abstract
⺠Polymorphic melanism is present in Malacosoma disstria moths. ⺠The melanic allele is dominant but rare and only expressed in males. ⺠Female carriers have increased melanization but not the melanic phenotype. ⺠Melanic males are smaller than non-melanic males.
