Abstract
► The removal of the pars intercerebralis in Periplaneta americana induced hyperphagy, upregulationg the CCAP-ir in the epithelium but not in the muscle layer. ► It also upregulated allatostatin-ir in the epithelial paraneurons and muscle layer. ► These reactivities were colocalized in the same epithelial paraneurons but unique reactivities are also present. ► The PIX also upregulated digestive enzyme activities. ► PI is thus an inhibitory center of feeding in this cockroach.
