Abstract
⺠Sexual interactions reduce survival in both genders. ⺠Corpus allatum (CA) reduces survival in virgins of both genders. ⺠Survival cost of sexual interactions is not mediated by the insect's own CA (endogenous juvenile hormone). ⺠Male CA has only minor effect on female survival. ⺠Female CA is principally responsible for the sex-induced reduction of male survival.
