Abstract
⺠We developed a model to investigate extinction risk of a harvested firefly population. ⺠Low mating efficiency plus high harvest rates drastically increase extinction risk. ⺠At a conservative population growth rate harvest rates must be <10% to be sustainable. ⺠Density-dependent larval development promotes persistence in a variable environment. ⺠More life history data are needed to accurately determine allowable harvest rates.
