► Pacific geoduck growth increment data was modeled using Bayesian hierarchical methods. ► Individual variability, intrinsic age and extrinsic environmental effects were modeled. ► Pacific Decadal Oscillation had a positive influence on geoduck growth. ► Sea surface temperature may be the dominant determinant on growth.
