Abstract
► We developed a bioenergetics model of an endangered bird for the winter period. ► Azores bullfinch energetic requirement peak in March due to thermoregulation costs. ► From March onwards, the bird has plenty energy for metabolic costs and activities. ► Removing the exotic tree Clethra arborea should be undertaken with caution. ► During winter C. arborea constitutes an important food item to the bird.
