Abstract
												⺠Anthracene had an immediate strong effect on the bacterial population in soil. ⺠The effect of anthracene on the bacterial population was transient. ⺠Bacterial population changed with soil depth only after 28 days. ⺠Proteobacteria were the most dominant followed by the Acidobacteria.
