Abstract
⺠Colonies of Atta sexdens accelerate organic matter decomposition. ⺠Nest refuse had higher decay rate compared to the leaf fragments. ⺠Chemical constitution of substrates (leaf fragments and refuse) differs considerably. ⺠The low residence time of nest refuse was related to lignin/cellulose ratio.
