Abstract
► Annual fertilization reduced the number of ectomycorrhizal fungal species. ► Cortinarius and Suillus mycorrhizae declined with annual fertilization. ► Enzyme activities of Cenococcum mycorrhizae increased with higher soil N levels. ► Fungal identity was the dominant influence on mycorrhizosphere enzyme profiles. ► Operational fertilization is not expected to compromise nutrient cycling by ECM fungi.
