Abstract
► The effects of habitat fragmentation on temporal dispersal are directly quantified. ► Seed banks contain large numbers of grassland species of conservation interest. ► Seed banks store more diversity than the vegetation on remnant grassland fragments. ► Temporal dispersal spatially buffers local species losses at the landscape scale. ► The storage effect may support future conservation and restoration efforts.
