Abstract
► Annual bycatch of marine mammals in U.S. fisheries between 1994 and 2006 was 4356. ► Bycatch of marine mammals in U.S. fisheries has decreased since 1994. ► Bycatch of harbor porpoises has not decreased since a Take Reduction Plan was implemented in 1998. ► Bycatch of common dolphins in Pacific drift gillnet fisheries decreased since 1994. ► With a few exceptions, the MMPA has been successful in reducing U.S. marine mammal bycatch.
