Abstract
► We examined the relationship between forest fragmentation, fire and management. ► We analyzed edge-related fires both inside and outside protected areas and indigenous reserves. ► Increasing fragmentation increases fire occurrence and intensity. ► Different types of management influence fire occurrence and intensity. ► Fire as a large-scale edge effect occurs independent of the management type.
