Abstract
► We explore the debate on perception and management of native and nonnative species. ► We consider a potential middle-ground based on the stage of nonnative establishment. ► Pre- and directly post-introduction, we suggest a chiefly origin-based perspective. ► After establishment, we suggest an impact-based view tempered by species origin. ► We advocate a move away from polarized debate towards an integrated approach.
