Abstract
⺠Policies encouraging private land conservation must consider landholder attitudes. ⺠Landholder preferences for policy instruments vary substantially. ⺠Policy instruments need improved targeting to the practices they aim to achieve. ⺠Familiarity and acceptability of practices influence policy preferences. ⺠Use of multiple policy instruments is more effective than use of single instruments.
