Abstract
⺠The reasons for losses of Pulsatilla vulgaris since 1968 were examined. ⺠Extinction on 16 sites but overall numbers increased by 258%. ⺠Populations small and fragmented. ⺠Reduced grazing was the main cause of declines. ⺠Reinstatement of grazing vital in intensively managed lowland landscapes.
