Abstract
► We linked hydraulic variables and sediment sizes along a meander with invertebrate's distribution. ► The meander scour hole (largest bed shear stresses) would be a hostile area for invertebrates. ► We have found two characteristic benthic assemblages across the bend. ► The Paraguay River would be within an optimal range of hydraulic stress values for invertebrates. ► We established the minimum and maximum hydraulic stress for invertebrate settlement.
