Abstract
► The impact of a ligninolytic fungus on litter was studied with field surveys and laboratory tests. ► Clitocybe sp. caused selective delignification and enhanced nitrogen mineralization. ► FT-IR analysis showed the selective transformation of the chemical structure of lignin in litter.
