Abstract
► An ice tank mesocosm was used to grow experimental sea ice algae. ► The physiology and morphology of Phaeocystis antarctica was examined with respect to ice growth. ► Cells only grew at the ice/water interface where temperatures were lowest. ► Change in morphotypes was dependant on the presence of ice.
