Abstract
⺠An ice tank mesocosm was used to grow experimental sea ice algae. ⺠The physiology and morphology of Phaeocystis antarctica was examined with respect to ice growth. ⺠Cells only grew at the ice/water interface where temperatures were lowest. ⺠Change in morphotypes was dependant on the presence of ice.
