Abstract
⺠Sedentary urchins may have greater effects on algae than currently thought. ⺠Passive drift-feeding urchins play active roles at elevated densities. ⺠Urchins may facilitate the cover of turf-forming algae. ⺠Biogeography appears important to interpreting variation in herbivory by urchins.
