Abstract
► Dactylomelin-P oxidizes L-lys and L-arg and behaves as an L-AAO. ► The antibacterial activity of dactylomelin-P is mediated by hydrogen peroxide. ► Dactylomelin-P is bacteriostatic or bactericide depending on L-aa concentrations. ► Dactylomelin-P binds to the cell envelope. ► L-AAOs similarities tell their evolutionary history and role in chemical defense.
