Abstract
► We investigated the demography of the demosponge Amphimedon compressa. ► A. compressa showed high survival, low growth, and low recruitment rates. ► This life-history pattern is regarded as typical of long-lived organisms. ► Survivorship is the most important vital rate for population growth. ► Population growth depends more in sexual recruitment than in asexual recruitment.
