Abstract
⺠We investigated the demography of the demosponge Amphimedon compressa. ⺠A. compressa showed high survival, low growth, and low recruitment rates. ⺠This life-history pattern is regarded as typical of long-lived organisms. ⺠Survivorship is the most important vital rate for population growth. ⺠Population growth depends more in sexual recruitment than in asexual recruitment.
