Abstract
⺠Otoliths are susceptible to postmortem contamination. ⺠Nitric acid is an effective cleaning agent but may cause unwanted physical degradation of sample. ⺠Microchemical analysis of dorsal spines of albacore is not recommended as a proxy for otoliths.
