Abstract
⺠We investigate a new model of one-dimensional spatial evolution among cells. ⺠When a cell divides, it does not replace a neighbor, but shifts neighbors aside. ⺠We find a very strong benefit to cooperative strategies. ⺠For large populations, selection maximizes whole population fitness.
